This Week’s Woman Crush Wednesday is the incredible Jackie Laming: Chief Marketing Officer at Modern Health. We are proud to have her apart of the ellevate network. Read more for some fun tips and facts about Jackie!
Empowerment advice: Progress not perfection. Don’t sweat the small stuff. You’re never going to be able to make 100% of the people around you happy 100% of the time, so stop beating yourself up. Also, you’re capable of way more than you think, and you certainly don’t get what you don’t ask for. If you can dream it, you can do it. Set big goals and break them down into small achievable goals, and hold yourself accountable. Build and maintain a network of trusted confidantes you can reach out to for help, but the most important thing is to build tools for self-reliance. Do the work. Get back up when you get knocked down. Learn the lesson and use it to tune yourself up and reach even higher. Be kind to everyone, no matter their status. You never know who’s had a shitty day or what’s going on in the background of someone else’s life.
Favorite beauty services: I’m old school and try to get chemical peels every 2-3 months. Post lockdown I use Dr. Dennis Gross’s Alpha Beta Extra Strength Daily Peel. I’m terrified of needles (I quite literally faint if I have to watch) and haven’t tried Botox yet, but told Ann in a few years I’ll probably be coming to her for help
Favorite beauty products: SK-11 Face Masks, Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic + Retinol Triple Correction Eye Serum, MAC Longwear Concealer, L’Oreal Paris Infallible The Super Slim eyeliner, Marcelle Fortifying & Lengthening Mascara
Skincare Routine: To be completely honest, I knew I should have some kind of skincare “routine” for most of my life, but never really had the discipline and would only use a basic face wash from whatever was on the shelf at Walgreens. I would occasionally get a facial and have the aesthetician recommend products (toners, serums, etc) but it just wasn’t a priority for me until later in life. A few years ago I noticed I had sun spots on my forehead and chest, and decided to see a dermatologist. I started a routine of RetinA and SkinMedica 2.0 Lytera Pigment Correcting Serum back then and have seen a huge difference in my skin.
General overview of a typical day: Wake up 15 mins before my first zoom, throw on a blazer and shorts, zoom for most of 9-5, ideally taking a mental health break somewhere in there for a few minutes on my patio, then virtual Barry’s / shower / order Postmates, then zoom with friends / family or use the evening to do longer work projects like building decks, writing bylines, video editing, catching up on emails / slacks. Unwind with Stephen Colbert on YouTube or Sarah Cooper on TikTok, dream of my next travel adventure, and a glass of wine before bed.
Favorite fashion of the moment: Leopard everything. I’m a “blazer for all situations” kind of girl and recently added a leopard print sequins number by L’agence to my collection
Favorite hotspot to chat with other #ellevated women: My outdoor patio. Since lockdown, it’s been heaven-sent to have a large private outdoor space where I can invite a few girlfriends over to hang out at a safe distance wearing masks. There’s just something about being together live and the level of depth and emotional vulnerability you can get into that zooms can never replace.
